What to give at this year’s Miracle on Third: Big Brothers Big Sisters

Dec 4, 2019 | 2:38 PM

PRINCE GEORGE–Miracle on Third is back, for the second year in a row.

The fundraiser has will take place outside of the CKPG News, 101.3 The River and 99.3 The Drive studios on 1810 3rd Ave.

Last year donations were made towards the Elizabeth Fry Society and this year, this year they are going to a new organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Northern BC.

So, what is BBBS, what can you donate, and who will the donations be helping? We caught up with Tim Bennett, Executive Director for BBBS to get you the answers.

Q: What is BBBS?

A: “I think everyone has heard of Big Brothers Big Sisters and everyone knows kind of our flagship program…of matching an adult with a child in the community. Our agency offers so many other additional programs whether it be our in-school mentoring program, we have a teen mentoring program, we run various group programming, we run before and after school care, we help get kids involved in sport. The agency is now much more than…what was our traditional BBBS program.”

Q: What can you donate on Thursday, Dec.12 from 7 a.m to 6 p.m?

“We are going to be collecting financial donations to help support our group programming. If we can raise $8,000 that will help us meet our programming goals for 2020…we also are going to be able to collect donations online through our website.” (Debit machines will be on location)

“Aswell activities that our matches can use so board games, craft supplies, cake mixes, baking supplies, things that our matches can do on a regular basis. Gift cards are also great whether it’s for places like OVERhang or the movie theatre, just to help lower that cost for our matches to be able to go do things in the community that really the big and the little enjoy.”

Q: How will the donations help?

“We as an organization have some really kind of aggressive goals…we want to ensure that we are decreasing the waitlist that kids are waiting to get matched. Right now on average it’s probably between 12 and 18 months for a child to come off of our waitlist…we want to shrink that time, we want to get kids matched as soon as possible. We also want to increase program offerings we have both here in Prince George and throughout the region. So with the support from Miracle on Third, we are going to be able to move a little quicker on our goals and ensure that even more children have the opportunity to participate in our programming.”

We hope to see you outside our studios on Thursday, Dec.12!

Happy Holidays!
