Drivers, pedestrians need to be more aware with changing road conditions

PRINCE GEORGE — Last week’s dumping of snow brought with it a holiday feeling, but also less than ideal road conditions. As such, drivers need to be more aware of pedestrians to ensure everyone’s safety.

With roads now looking like this, we need to change our driving habits. Around crosswalks and intersections, this is even more true, as pedestrians rely on drivers to stop for them when crossing the road.

“We know where those pedestrian crossings are. We need to make sure we give ourselves enough time to get where we’re going. Slow down for pedestrian stops because there could be someone we don’t see,” said Road Safety & Community Coordinator with ICBC, Doug MacDonald.

But the onus does not solely fall on motorists. Pedestrians have their role to play too including being aware of drivers and putting on reflective wear to help motorists see them.
