Close but no cigar

Kings drop close game to Chiefs

PRINCE GEORGE — For the second time in as many nights, the Prince George Spruce Kings starting goalie was chased in a losing effort. The 5-3 defeat to Chilliwack keeps PG winless in December and ups the losing streak to three games.

Carter Woodside stopped eleven of 15 shots. Just before getting pulled midway through the second period, he allowed two goals in 50 seconds to give the Chiefs a 4-2 lead and they would not look back from there. Jett Alexander saved all nine shots he faced in relief.

Nolan Welsh, Preston Brodziak, and Mason Waite all notched two points. PG managed to convert on two of their five powerplays while going 1/2 while down a man.

The Spruce Kings now sit 11-18-2-3 on the season. That places them in a tie for last with Surrey in the Mainland Division, though PG has played two more games than the Eagles.
