PRINCE GEORGE – Council has approved the first two readings of a re-zoning bylaw and an Official Community Plan amendment to pave the way for a housing project on First Avenue, at the current location of NR Motors.

It’s a joint project between BC Housing and Northern Health to provide, over time, 100 units of housing at that location and -zoning was the first step. There was a great deal of discussion around the notification literature. Currently, there is a bylaw that sets out a 30-metre radius.

But Councillor Terri McConnachie put it forward to increase it to 100 metres. There were some concerns around Council Chambers about setting a precedent around the notification.

However, in a vote of five to four to move forward with the new radius.
