PRINCE GEORGE – There is a new look to the landscape at the College of New Caledonia.

A silver Geodesic dome has been set up on campus.

“There’ll be all kinds of projects, like hydroponics, including energy management,” explains Sorin Pasca, the Director of Applied Research and Innovation. “We want to understand what the energy requirements are to heat the greenhouse in the wintertime.”

The dome was built with the help of the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

“Agricultural is one of the ones that our Regional Advisors, the industry itself and our Board have said ‘You know, we really need to do more with that space.’ It’s got a lot of upside potential for growth,” explains Joel McKay, CEO of the Trust.

The dome will not only be used for research on food sustainability and energy management, but it will also support CNC’s cafeteria, Kodiaks restaurant and Professional Cook apprenticeship program.
