Heavy Snow + Warming Temps = Avalanche Activity

PRINCE GEORGE Temperatures will start to creep up over the zero marks in the next few days.

According to Environment Canada, snow is expected to continue through to New Year’s Day.

The combination of wet snow has the potential to weaken the snowpack in our region. Another front is expected to hit our region on New Year’s Day with 5 centimetres of snow.

With the changing temperatures and the amount of new snow, Avalanche Canada expects the avalanche danger to rise in the North Rockies and Cariboo regions.

Those planning on venturing out into the backcountry on New Year’s day should use caution.

According to Avalanche Canada, the high snowfall and warming temperatures is a combination that tends to favour avalanches activity.
