Tourism PG re-branding

PRINCE GEORGE – Tourism Prince George has given itself a very busy schedule.

Next month, it will introduce its new CEO and, in June, it will launch a new brand.

While it has always promoted the great outdoors as part of the attraction, the re-brand will broaden those opportunities to the entire North. Tourism Prince George is asking all those local organizations that may have a tourism-related attraction to let them know so they can better promote what’s in our own back yard.

“We want to entice people to go around our region,” explains Elke Hierl-Steinbauer, Chair of the Board for Tourism Prince George. “We will work with Fort St. James. We will work with Williams Lake. We will work with Smithers and Prince Rupert, et cetera. So the re-branding is ‘Experience the North,’ right?”

The new brand will be launched during Tourism Week in June.

During a recent presentation to Council, Tourism Prince George was, once again, asked if there were plans to move the Visitor Information Centre, with Mayor Lyn Hall re-iterating his desire to see a Visitor Information Centre established at the intersection of Highways 16 and 97.

“Quite honestly I don’t think First Avenue is the most ideal location. We take a look at other communities throughout the province and we see tourist information centres located in high traffic areas. And Highway 16 and 97 is one of the highest traffic areas in the province.”

Tourism Prince George says it is considering its options carefully on that front, with Hierl-Steinbauer using words like “prudent,” “feasible” and “strategic.”
