RCMP catch 34 impaired drivers during CounterAttack campaign

PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties were kept busy during the recent CounterAttack campaign.

The campaign – which ran from Dec.6 to Jan.1 – resulted in pulling over 34 impaired drivers. One was charged under the Criminal Code for driving under the influence of alcohol and another for being under the influence of drugs.

Fourteen motorists received a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and had their vehicles impounded for 30 days (over 100 mg%) while 18 received a three day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and had their vehicles impounded for seven days (between 60-99 mg%).

In addition to impaired drivers, 19 motorists had their licences suspended. Ten received 24 hour suspensions for alcohol (50-59 mg%), eight received 24 hour suspensions for drugs and one person received a 12 hour suspension for a learner or new driver with alcohol in the body.

Sixteen prohibited or suspended drivers were apprehended and 58 vehicles were impounded. (total including IRPs).

“Officers used a variety of tools to help them detect and apprehend impaired drivers, including approved screening devices, physical coordination testing and drug recognition experts,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass.

He says the RCMP will continue to conduct enforcement action at high collision intersections, target prohibited and suspended drivers and address impaired driving the rest of the winter.
