PRINCE GEORGE – Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Prince George.

A period of very cold wind chills is expected. Bitterly cold arctic air will remain entrenched over the area for several days. North winds combined with cold temperatures will create wind chill values near minus 40.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

The City, along with Prince George RCMP, have issued a Heavy Snowfall Declaration.

This declaration is to notify residents that snow and ice control crews may need extra time to clear the streets. Residents are asked to be patient, drive to conditions, and plan your travels accordingly.

Residents can keep up to date on snow and ice control operations by following the City on social media, or subscribe to receive email updates.
