Cold weather leads to crimes of opportunity

PRINCE GEORGE — A reminder from the Prince George RCMP not to leave your vehicle running while you’re inside staying warm.

Mounties say three vehicles were stolen Monday by opportunistic thieves in cases where the keys were left in the ignition and the vehicle doors were left unlocked.

Police suggest purchasing a remote car starter to mitigate the risk.

They also say it’s a violation under the BC Motor Vehicle Act to leave your unsecure vehicle running unattended meaning that if your vehicle is stolen, your insurance may be deemed void and the insurer may not cover the loss.
