PRINCE GEORGE – Watching motorists try to get around after a snowfall in the Lower Mainland has its own humour factor up here, but there are impacts.

The movement of goods and merchandise is generally disrupted when there is vehicular gridlock.

Food Security Expert, Dr. Annie Booth says stores generally have three days’ worth of supply on the shelves.

“A lot of perishables don’t actually make it up. Perishables are the things that come up most frequently in specialized trucks. If those trucks aren’t running or getting out [of the Lower Mainland], you’re starting to see a shortage of vegetables. You’re starting to see a shortage of fresh meats, cheeses, things that aren’t really ‘shelf stale.’ Most stores have three to four days of basic goods available to them,” explains Dr. Booth.
