Mongomo makes history in dominant win, TWolves men drop tight contest to UBCO
KELOWNA — UNBC’s Maria Mongomo led the way for the Timberwolves in Kelowna Friday night en route to making school history and earning a 104-54 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat.
Mongomo dropped 35 points, seven rebounds, and five steals for the TWolves, including her 1,499th career point to become the all-time scoring leader. Her excellent game highlighted an excellent all-around performance for the TWolves, who advance to 4-9 on the season.
Shortly after, the men’s team took the floor hoping to replicate their female counterparts’ performance. It was a much closer affair, however, with UNBC fighting from behind for much of the contest.
Tyrell Laing threw down a career-high 30 points but it was not enough as the TWolves fell 90-81. The Heat dominated the dirty areas of this game, outrebounding UNBC 43-25 and outscoring them 48-30 in the paint. UNBC falls to 4-9 this year.
