VANCOUVER–The R-C-M-P in British Columbia and Manitoba say they spent about 1.5-million dollars on a sprawling search for the two young men, Bryer Schmegelsky and Kam McLeod, wanted for three killings last summer in northern B-C.

Mounties in B-C estimate their costs at 750-thousand dollars, while those in Manitoba say they spent less than 800-thousand dollars during the two and a half week search.

Those costs include the major crime investigation and specialized support services, such as air services and forensic identification, but do not include the cost of the Canadian Armed Forces, whose members also helped out.

A national R-C-M-P spokeswoman in Ottawa says in an email she is not in a position to provide a total amount.
