PRINCE GEORGE–One man is in custody following a report of a suspicious person, followed by a foot chase over the weekend.

Prince George RCMP received a report of a suspicious male exiting a driveway on Dalhousie Drive at around 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.26th. Minutes later an officer located a man fitting the description of the suspicious male. Police found the suspect breaking into a vehicle near the corner of McGill Crescent and Simon Fraser Drive.

The suspect fled, initiating a foot chase, running down and across Highway 16. A member of the public driving down Highway 16 down Peden Hill observed the foot chase and offered the officer a ride to a more advantageous location down the hill.

A team from the Prince George Police Dog Services Section arrived to assist. The suspect was tracked through brush, over fences and even onto the roof of a commercial storage facility along the Highway. Personal and stolen items were located by officers during the search.

Just before 2:30 am one of the service dogs located the suspect hiding under a trailer on Hollandia Drive. The suspect resisted arrest despite the presence of the officers and police dog, and was eventually taken into custody.

Twenty-eight-year-old Davin Gray Jokinen has been charged with the following:

  • Trespass at night
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resist Arrest
  • Fail to comply with probation
  • Fail to comply with conditions of release

Police say Jokinen is new to Prince George and previously resided in Quesnel and Dawson Creek and is well known to police throughout those communities.
