Mackenzie forms new coalition
MACKENZIE – The community of Mackenzie has used the Natural Resources Forum to its advantage, as it provided an ideal venue for the newly-formed Mackenzie Timber Supply Area Coalition.
“So last April, Premier John Horgan sent out letters to industry leaders, encouraging them to form individual Timber Supply Area Coalitions,” explains Mackenzie Mayor Joan Atkinson. “Conifex stepped up and applied and, in September, the Province accepted the first application from Mackenzie and Conifex.”
The group had there inaugural meeting with more than fifty at the table, which representing government, industry, labour and First Nations. It has been charged with the task of resurrecting a vibrant forest industry in that community.
“Our community is very lucky in that we still have a robust fibre supply and we have facilities to process that fibre. So why isn’t it working.”
