PRINCE GEORGE–Celebrating Black History month, that is what the College of New Caledonia along with the Prince George African Heritage Society will be doing throughout the month of February.

This is the 23rd year the event has taken place at the CNC, last year raising $5,000 for the CNC Black History Committee Endowment Bursary.

“Black History Month is a time to reflect upon, learn from, and honour the past,” said CNC instructor and Black History Committee member Cliff Raphael. “But it’s also a time to celebrate the future. The Black History Committee Endowment Bursary helps make school more affordable for those who are building their futures at CNC.”

Events will include an indoor soccer tournament, Afro-Fusion Cuisine Dinner, Dance and Entertainment event.

Event Dates:

  • Indoor Soccer Tournament: Feb.15th and 16th from 9-4 pm in the CNC gymnasium. Teams are competing for cash prizes, $500 for first, $300 for second and $200 for third.
  • Afro-Fusion Cuisine Dinner, Dance, and Entertainment: Feb.22 at the CNC at 5:30 p.m (dinner and appetizers will be served starting at 5:30, dinner is at 6 p.m)

Tickets for the dinner can be purchased at the CNC Bookstore, UNBC Bookstore, Books and Company and at the door if tickets are still available.

In honour of black history month, CNC has put up a display of traditional African history and culture in their library.
