City looks to conserve water
PRINCE GEORGE – The City wants Prince George residents to cut back on their water consumption. The average Prince George household uses 553 litres of water per person, per day. The Canadian average is 427 litres of water per person, per day.
“In most cases, in Prince George, our consumption is about irrigation of our lawns and our gardens and such,” explains Gina Layte-Liston, Director of Public Works.
And those recent numbers are a vast improvement. In 2007, Prince George residents used 838 litres of water per person, per day. The City is looking to secure funding from the federal Green Municipal Fund to create an action plan to help residents be more water conscious. And, as part of it, the City will conduct an internal audit of its own civic facilities.
“If we’re asking the public to conserve or do something differently, then we’d better be leading the way,” says Mayor Lyn Hall.
