Using CB radio channels the complainant solicited the assistance of commercial water tanker truck drivers in the area who aided in fully blocking the lanes of the highway at Farrell Creek Rd.

Police believe the suspect vehicle attempted to proceed through the ditch and around the improvised blockade when they became stuck.

“It was at this point that the two male occupants exited the pickup truck, brandished a rifle at the bystanders and eventually fled on foot into the woods, says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

Officers from Fort St. John, Chetwynd and the Police Dog Service assisted the Hudson’s Hope RCMP in the search for the suspects. “An area of containment was established and the highway was shut down for public safety reasons, due to a firearm being involved,” states RCMP Cpl. O’Donaghey. “We’d like to thank all those who were impacted by this closure for their patience and understanding.”

A 36-year-old man surrendered to police just after 10 p.m. and was held in police custody overnight. The second suspect, a 42-year-old Williams Lake man, was located early the next morning and taken into police custody.
