PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars kicked off the Family Day long weekend with a trip back home to the CN Centre against the Calgary Hitmen Saturday night.

A homecoming celebration wasn’t in the cards however as the Hitmen doubled up on the Cougars with a 4-2 victory.

The Cougars were plagued with slow starts in the first two periods, dropping their third-straight game. Calgary was able to score all of their goals in bunches, two of which came off of tipped shots in front of the net.

Carson Focht, Josh Prokop, Riley Fiddler-Schultz, and Adam Kydd scored for the Hitmen. Brayden Peters stopped 26 of 28 shots to pick up his 14th win in the Calgary crease.

Filip Koffer and Josh Maser scored for the Cougars, who are winless in four games against the Central Division this season. With the loss, the Cougars remain nine points back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Taylor Gauthier surrendered four goals on 17 shots, before being replaced by Tyler Brennan. Brennan stopped all 14 shots he faced in 36 minutes of work.

Prince George never managed to close the deficit to less than two goals on Saturday having not scored until after the Hitmen lit up the scoreboard on four occasions.

The Cougars (16-29-3-4) face the Red Deer Rebels (19-31-2-3) on Monday in a Family Day matinee at the CN Centre; the puck drops at 2:00 pm.
