Select Committee looking for facilitator

Feb 18, 2020 | 4:06 PM

PPRINCE GEORGE – The Select Committee on a Safe, Clean and Inclusive Community has held its third meeting, albeit a brief meeting. At it, the group agreed that a third-party facilitator is needed from this point forward to work on solutions.

“It just really came to light after our last meeting that we really need somebody to come in who has done these kinds of facilitations before to guide our committee in making, I think, some recommendations,” says Mayor Lyn Hall. “Just a stronger process for making recommendations to Council.”

Some around the table expressed frustrations, though.

“There’s issues. Something is broken,” says John Zukowski with the Business Owners Advocacy Group. “We need to pull all those issues apart, put them into their categories, see who’s responsible for it and then work the problem.”

A series of recommendations were put forward following a meeting of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, the Gateway BIA, Downtown Prince George and Prince George Business Advocacy Group. It sets out two motions:

1) Terms of Reference should be amended to include the following items:

i) Attendee invitations should be extended to all elected MLA’s and MP’s

ii) Crown Counsel for the region should be added as an invitee

iii) The Committee will make recommendations on priorities and strategies related to the key issues. It will be at the sole discretion of City Council to determine the budget implications and to approve the funding related to theCity of Prince George resources.

2) That the City of Prince George consider the issues impacting our community as issues of great importance to health and public safety and therefore look for all avenues to eliminate tax impacts and source tax mitigation strategies.

Those issues will be fleshed out at the next Committee meeting.
