It has as been an amazing season for the Cariboo Cougars Minor Midget AAA squad.

After 4 wins last weekend, the club currently sits in 1st place in the league standings with just a pair of games to go and one of the big reasons for their success has been the play of their Captain, Scott Cousins.

The 24-5-1 Minor Midget Cougars Captain leads the way in scoring in the league with 27 goals and 28 assists on the season in just 26 games.

“I owe half of my success to my coaches and my teammates,” shared Cousins to CKPG.

“They have been very helpful for me to get to where I am. Obviously a lot of success so far this season, but have to keep it going as nothing has been handed to me this season.”

Despite leading the league in all major offensive categories, Cousins feels this year he has seen his game grow and develop throughout the year.

“My confidence level has gone up a lot. The coaching staff has put me in positions to succeed and the same with my teammates.”

Part of the reason for the continued development of the Minor Midget Cougars leading scorer is his ability to soak in all of the information which is given to him by the coaching staff and his thirst for knowledge.

“He sees the ice well. He is a learner,” explained Head Coach Ryan Howse.

“That’s what it takes to be a good hockey player. That learning ability. He has it down. He listens. He goes through his tough times too. It’s not just sunshine, but he does a great job of fighting through the adversity.”

Cousins and the rest of the Minor Midget Cougars will wrap up the regular season at the end of the month when they host the Vancouver North West Hawks for a pair of games at the Kin.
