Sutton happy to be back in hometown

Prior to the Junior A trade deadline back on January 10, the Spruce Kings had just one hometown player on the team, that being Corey Cunningham. However, the amount of Prince George products doubled on the team when they went out and acquired veteran defenceman Jarin Sutton.

Sutton played two seasons with the Cariboo Cougars major midget team prior to his junior hockey days. When he was 17 he went to Kelowna to play in the KIJHL with the Chiefs.

He then made the jump to Junior A just a year later when he joined the BCHL’s Victoria Grizzlies. He was then traded to the AJHL’s Grande Prairie Storm and then almost a year later was dealt to his hometown Spruce Kings.

“It’s been super easy from the start,” shared Sutton

“The guys are great and the coaches are easy to get along with. It’s a good time here.”

However, despite coming back to his hometown to wrap up the final year of junior hockey, it was a tough move from Grande Prairie to Prince George as both he and his brother were playing together with the Storm.

“It was hard getting traded away from him, but it was the better move for me,” added Sutton. “Playing with him in my 20-year-old year was pretty special.”

Sutton and the Spruce Kings will wrap up the regular season this weekend when they play host to the Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday at the RMCA.
