PRINCE GEORGE–UPDATE: A stretch of Highway 97 south of Prince George reopened late last night after a fatal collision just after 9 yesterday (Thursday) morning . A logging truck and two other vehicles were involved. One fatality was confirmed and another person was taken to hospital . The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE: One person is dead after a collision on Highway 97 south this morning (Feb.20.)

According to the BC RCMP a logging truck and two other vehicles, an SUV and a pickup truck collided, sending the logging trucks load on to the highway. Police responded to the collision at around 9:10 a.m.

Police say one person has been confirmed dead and another was sent to hospital with undetermined injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and RCMP say that nothing has been ruled out yet.

The highway remains closed, police say it is unknown when it will re-open. Highway updates can be found here.

EARLIER:Highway 97 south has been closed due to a major vehicle incident this morning at around 9:30 am.

The incident is located between Patterson Rd. and Courval Rd., 8 km south of Pineview. DriveBC says there is no detour available and an assessment of the incident is in progress.

The PG RCMP and other emergency services are on scene, police say the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours.
