The Northern closes its doors for good
PRINCE GEORGE — Saturday marked the final time The Northern would open and close its doors. It is the end of an era for Prince George, 100 years in the making.
The Northern was much more than just a hardware store for many. For a century, it was a mainstay in downtown Prince George and such a key piece of the city’s identity. Customers said they would miss the social aspect of the store, noting how friendly the staff always were. Altogether, they say it’s a major loss to the community.
One customer expressed his feelings saying, “It’s been part of the community. It wasn’t just a store.”
Still, 100 years is an incredible accomplishment and one the family-run business took great pride in.
