Roller Derby: Packin’ a punch at the PG Dome
PRINCE GEORGE – The Rated PG Rollergirls hosted a bout against the North Coast Nightmares on Saturday (Feb. 22) before holding a practice and co-ed scrimmage on Sunday from the Prince George Dome.
The Nightmares, being from Terrace, have a number of women on the team that actually serve as satellite players for the Rated PG Rollergirls team of the World Flat Track Derby Association.
Currently ranked 78th in the North American West Division of the WFTDA, 7th-year Kathy Klyne says Roller Derby is a much larger sport than people may think, adding it was the fastest-growing contact sport for women in North America when she started.
For Katie Cunningham, having started in 2015, having played hockey for much of her life, the non-contact in women’s hockey just wasn’t cutting it for her.
