COVID-19 UPDATE: Province preparing for all possible outcomes, including pandemic

Feb 26, 2020 | 10:09 AM

VICTORIA–Minister of Health, Adrian Dix and BC’s Provincial Health Officer released an update yesterday, Feb.25, on the novel coronavirus in BC.

In their joint statement, Dix and Dr. Bonnie Henry say that all patients with COVID-19 “continue to recover and are in isolation at home and under the care of public-health teams.”In BC, there have been a total of seven people who have tested positive for the virus.

“In recent days, we have seen an increasing number of countries around the world with a growing number of cases. While the risk of spread of this virus within British Columbia remains low at this time, we are watching the global evolution of COVID-19 carefully and are focusing efforts on containing the spread of COVID-19 in B.C. and in Canada.”

The province is preparing for all possible outcomes including the possibility of a pandemic, a spread of an illness to a large number of people on a global scale.

Preventative measures include cleaning your hands regularly, avoiding touching your face, coughing or sneezing into your elbow sleeve, disposing of tissues appropriately and staying home and away from others if you’re sick.

Anyone travelling internationally and returning to BC is asked to monitor themselves and their children closely for symptoms.
