Traffic congestion in Vanderhoof concerning
VANDERHOOF – Highway 16 runs through the heart of Vanderhoof, as it does through many Northwestern communities. The difference is that industrial growth along the corridor in Vanderhoof is created a pinch point.
“You hear from truck drivers who are going [that route] and they’re talking about long waits to get into the traffic,” says Gerry Thiessen, mayor of Vanderhoof.
The concerns have grown so much that Mayor and Council recently sat down with officials with the Ministry of Transportation and Highways to express their concerns and offer suggests to ease the congestion.
“They need to look at it. Does the speed limit need to be looked at? In our mind, their needs to be more merging lanes, more opportunity to get out onto the road and merge into traffic.”
