Coastal GasLink pauses work to allow talks between Hereditary Chiefs and Government
HOUSTON–Costal GasLink has agreed to halt construction at their Morice River area for two days as Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs and government representatives begin talks.
Coastal GasLink released a statement today, March 27, saying that the Morice River area is a highly important area to their construction schedule. “The Wet’suwet’en territory has ungulate winter range and migratory bird restrictions that prohibit work during certain periods of the year. Work is also limited during the winter periods due to heavy snow. Combined, these constraints limit the time available for Coastal GasLink to work and to make progress towards our committed in-service date.”
Also mentioning that they understand the importance of dialogue and will provide time for talks by temporarily pausing construction.
In a release by the BC RCMP, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Cheifs have agreed to keep the Morice West Forest Service Road (MWSR) open during the discussion period with the federal and provincial governments.
