BC Human Rights Commissioner makes stop in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — BC’s new Human Rights Commissioner is touring the province following her appointment last fall. Her first stop was in Prince George looking for issues facing rural communities in BC.
Kasari Govender is looking for real-life experiences and issues people face as it relates to discrimination and inequality, as well as informing the public what the commission does. Govender started her five-year term in September 2019. Prior to that, it had been 17 years since the BC Liberal government abolished the position as a cost-cutting measure.
The office will take the information gathered at the ongoing engagement sessions to continue to develop the government’s strategic priorities surrounding human rights.
