Cheslatta Carrier Nation and Rio Tinto sign New Day agreement

NECHAKO – Rio Tinto and the Cheslatta Carrier Nation have signed the New Day agreement, a partnership that will support a strong future for the Cheslatta Community and for Rio Rinto’s hydroelectric operations.
The signing took place yesterday (Feb. 27) at a ceremony on the Southside of Francois Lake, in the Nechako Watershed.
Both parties say that the New Day agreement will promote the social and economic well-being of the Cheslatta Carrier Nation. This will be done through engagement in the areas of training, employment, business opportunities, and environmental stewardship.
The agreement will also establish a New Day Scholarship Fund that will provide scholarships for Cheslatta students of all ages.
