PRINCE GEORGE–Are you smarter than an elementary school student?

Mayor Lyn Hall shot his best shot against Ron Brent Elementary School students today, Feb.28, in a BC Hydro Power smart competition.

The competition was part of BC Hydro’s Winter Conservation Campaign which aims at teaching students how they can make a large impact by making small changes in their day to day lives in order to help conserve energy.

Mayor Hall started off strong, hitting the buzzer first and getting the question right but Ron Brent wasn’t far behind. “Partway through it wasn’t a real competition…we started to collaborate a little bit more–it was good, it helped me out.”

“Before I started the competition I was pretty nervous.” – Mayor Lyn Hall

Bob Gammer, Community Relations Manager for BC Hydro, Northern BC, says it’s important to get young minds thinking about conserving energy, “we like to get to get people thinking about conservation early because then that’s something they can carry on throughout their lifetime,” he said to us in an on-camera interview.

BC Hydro has a list of small ways you can save energy in your home including:

  • Turning off unnecessary lights
  • Using natural light
  • Taking shorter showers
  • Turning off the tap when you’re shaving, washing hands, brushing teeth

Three other events like this one will take place across the province in schools and in communities in an attempt to get British Columbians to conserve energy where they can.
