Research Week at UNBC

PRINCE GEORGE – It is Research Week at UNBC. It’s a chance to celebrate achievements in research and showcase certain projects. UNBC is Canada’s most research-intensive universities of its size in Canada. In fact, for every 15 faculty members, there is one Research Chair, which is research that receives external funding for specific work.

But the head of research, Dr. Geoff Payne, says it is just as important to do the research as to share the findings for the betterment of the community.

“We want to make sure that the research gets out. Good research goes beyond the four walls of the academy. So working with our partners, working with our communities, taking them and working with the research and working with them to make sure the research goes from research into practice.”

An example of that exchange occurred years ago when work was done to determine the “shelf-life” of a tree infested with the Mountain Pine Beetle. That work helped local forestry operations tremendously in determining harvesting practices.
