YMCA of Northern BC hosts annual Megathon
PRINCE GEORGE — This weekend was the YMCA’s Megathon. The annual fundraiser is the biggest of the year, with the goal of raising $15,000.
Whether it’s Walk with Y Girl, Pound, or Zumba, a little bit of everything was on display Saturday at the YMCA of Northern BC. All for Megathon which supports the Strong Kids Campaign, but this year has not gone as smoothly as others with fewer businesses providing funds.
YMCA Strong Kids provides subsidies for 1 in 5 children in YMCA camps and programs. For many, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Others can grow with the programs over the years. It’s not only friends to be made, but healthy role models as well. Something less fortunate kids do not always have. It’s a unique bond for the kids and a source of pride for those who lead the programs. Those relationships built also last a lifetime. Often the kids who are supported by Strong Kids come back and help out during the Megathon.
The YMCA Megathon aims to raise a quarter of the YMCA of Northern BC’s $60,000 yearly fundraising.
