PRINCE GEORGE – Nick Hadfield has regularly put on a business fair at whatever school he’s been teaching at and this year is no different.

The first business fair at Glenview Elementary went down on Wednesday, letting intermediate students showcase their businesses.

Everything from snow cones to face paint, scrunchies to puppets, the school’s gymnasium was turned into a show of youth-driven businesses.

“One of the concepts the students learned is that it’s not just about a product they want to sell, it’s about a product their customers really want to buy,” said Hadfield. “Part of what we’ve been working on over the past two months is that they actually have to go out with their ideas and survey the kids.”

Hadfield says the entire process comes with a number of learning experiences that can be easily translated to the real-world.

“They borrow money off of their parents, so the parents have to sign a loan, and so they say ‘okay, I’m going to borrow $16 and I promise to pay you back on this day’, and that would be the piece that they come away with today is to pay that money back and see how much profit they made.”

The students also decided to then donate 10 per cent of their proceeds to Ronald McDonald House.

“Business isn’t just taking money out fo the community, it’s also about giving back,” said Hadfield.

A fun and a charitable way for the kids to enjoy being entrepreneurs through the new curriculum.
