Canadian airlines are making significant reductions and, in some cases, elimination of international and transborder flying. With decades of experience in the aviation industry, Duke admits this is a very troubling time for air travel, adding the industry has never seen anything like this.

“We talk about pre-9/11 and after 9/11,” Duke told CKPGToday.ca. “We will now look at this in terms of pre-Covid-19 and post-Covid-19. It is having an impact probably larger than 9/11.”

It’s believed that the impact on aviation will go on for a significant period of time, even after the spread of the novel coronavirus is contained.

In the meantime, Duke ensures that the airport is still operating and appropriate steps have been made in response to social distancing. The airport restaurant, BG Urban Grill, will be running on a reduced schedule and the food and beverage area in the Boarding Lounge will be closed until further notice. There is now a one hour of free parking in front of the airport in order to limit interactions within the terminal for arrivals and departures.
