Heart Hunt: Prince George puts its love on display

PRINCE GEORGE – They have been popping up in windows throughout the city of Prince George, all in response to a Facebook post made by Bailey Grose Tuesday evening.

Grose thought it’d be fun to have a city-wide Heart Hunt, so the community could still get outside and do something fun, yet still practising social distancing.

“I came across this post. Someone had been sharing it about St Patricks Day and putting a shamrock in your window,” said Grose. “I thought this would be a great thing to post in Hell Yeah Prince George (HYPG) and make it a heart because it’d be something that people would feel more inclined to participate in – it’ll last longer, and I’d like to think that it would boost morale. So I posted it that evening and just thought we’d see how it goes. I guess you could say the rest is history.”

From there, the post has garnered over 13-hundred likes and over 1,000 shares, with the community, both residence and businesses responding as hearts have been popping up throughout the community.

“It’s huge,” said Grose regarding the response from her post. “I’ve received private messages. There’s some in New Zealand. It’s gotten as far as Terrace, Smithers, Chetwynd, Valemount.”

She admits the response from the post reduced her anxiety towards the novel coronavirus outbreak and the state of emergency that has since emerged in response.

“It’s so easy to share all the stats and to regurgitate all of those things. It’s disheartening. I’ve slept so well the last two nights because you feel good (from the response), you literally feel a bit better.”
