PRINCE GEORGE—For not knowing much about soccer, his LEGO creation sure didn’t show it.

Local LEGO afficionado, Caleb Hoy, was announced as the second place winner in an international LEGO contest. The 16-year-old told CKPG News that he didn’t know much about soccer when he decided to enter the Build United! contest, which required him to create a LEGO piece related to Manchester United.

“I build a creation every day.”—Caleb Hoy

His piece named, “Watching the football game” only took him a day and a half to create, mentioning that he is “very persistent,” and when he starts a project has to finish it.

“This is a surprise, such a happy surprise…amidst all this craziness in the world,” said Hoy’s mother Tara referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hoy says he was shocked when he heard that he came in second place when winners were announced today, March 19. “I was pretty much mouth open, like wow!” he told CKPG News over the phone. There weren’t a lot of requirement according to Hoy, saying that he simply wasn’t allowed to use licensed LEGO pieces.

Hoy will receive $600 worth of new LEGO as his second place prize, and says he has a dream to one day be a LEGO designer.
