Controlled burns to reduce wildfire risks and prep for tree-planting season

QUESNEL—Smoke will be visible in the Nazko area next week as woody debris will be burned to help reduce wildfire risks and prepare for the upcoming tree-planting season.

Over 100 piles of the woody debris will be burned near Coglistiko Lake and Fishpot Lake between Monday, March 23 and March 31 by staff from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

According to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development the areas around Coglistiko Lake and Fishpot Lake, were heavily damaged by the 2017 Plateau wildfire and contained high concentrations of standing dead trees.
