OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the country this morning from his home in the country’s capital, announcing up to $847 a week available to Canadians who’s workplaces have been impacted by COVID-19.

Trudeau started off reminding Canadians to stay home if they are able during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Businesses who have seen a 30% decrease in revenue are eligible for the subsidy, which will apply to non-profits, charities and businesses of all sizes.

Canadians working for a business that has been impacted will receive 75 percent for the first $58,700 meaning up to $847 a week per person.

Trudeau also issuing a warning to the public saying that this unprecedented situation calls for unprecedented action, “we are trusting you to do the right thing,” he said, asking Canadians to not take advantage of the subsidy as consequences will follow for those who do.

Last week Trudeau announced that businesses would be able to benefit from a 75 percent subsidy, up from the original 10 percent that had been announced earlier this month.
