VANCOUVER—70 more cases of COVID-19 were announced today.

BC’s new total of COVID-19 cases is now at 970, with 14 confirmed cases of the virus in the Northern Health region.

16 new cases were reported on March 29, and 70 were reported today, March 30.

BC’s Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry announced that there were also two deaths in the Vancouver area.

Cases by region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 472
  • Fraser Health: 323
  • Vancouver Island: 67
  • Interior Health: 94
  • Northern Health: 14

106 people are hospitalized due to the virus, with 60 people in ICU.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that 48 percent (469 people) of cases in the province have recovered from the novel coronavirus.

Henry attributed the recovery rate at catching the virus at the right time and providing medical assistance as soon as possible once diagnosed.

Henry emphasized that the next several weeks are going to be a “critical time for us,” saying that British Columbians actions will determine whether we continue to see a trickle effect or see a dramatic influx of cases.

She reminds British Columbians that this isn’t over, that BC has not peaked yet and that distancing ourselves from each other in the next several weeks is key to over coming the pandemic.

19 major hospitals in the province have been deemed COVID-19 hospitals, primary sites, ready to tackle the virus.

Health Minister, Adrian Dix announced the elimination of pay parking as a whole at hospitals during this time, to encourage social distancing and minimize touching surfaces.

“There is no community that is immune to this virus” said Henry, as she explained that Northern Health is aware of all the cases in its region.

Henry say Northern Health has been very active with Industrial camps in the north in the attempt to reduce the spread of the virus by reducing the amount of staff at camps, and extending the amount of time workers are at the camp, in an attempt at keeping workers and surrounding communities COVID-19 free.
