VICTORIA—43 more cases of COVID-19 announced today, along with 5 deaths, during the province’s daily update with BC’s Provincial Health Officer.

The 43 new cases puts BC’s total of confirmed cases at 1,013, along with one new case in the Northern Health region bringing the total to 15.

Cases by health region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 476
  • Fraser Health: 348
  • Vancouver Island: 67
  • Interior Health:107
  • Northern Health:15

According to Provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry, there are 19 care homes with reported outbreaks of the virus. Although Henry did note that many of these places only have one person who was confirmed infected and quickly put measures in place to attempt to reduce the spread of the virus.

“No one is immune to this virus, but everyone can make a difference.”—Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer

128 people are hospitalized with 61 currently in ICU. Henry mentioned that the number of people in ICU has stayed near the same due to the fact that they are rotating patients in and out of ICU as a way to better treat the virus.

Henry reiterated that the next two weeks are a crucial time for British Columbians to help stop the spread of the virus.
