BRITISH COLUMBIA—RCMP may look a little different when they respond to a call during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Depending on the call that frontline officers respond to they may wear Personal Protective Equipment which could include a facemask, gloves and/or protective eye wear.

In a release by the BC RCMP they say that they understand that the appearance may be alarming to the public but would like the public to understand that it is a measure taken to ensure the everyone’s health and safety.

9-1-1 dispatch calls will be a bit different as well with callers being asked additional questions whenever they contact 9-1-1 or their local police non-emergency lines.

The new precautionary questions will focus on whether anyone in the callers home or at the scene of an incident has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or if they’re exhibiting any of the symptoms. Allowing officers to prepare for their attendance to the scene.

The RCMP have–like many—ramped up their cleaning procedures in police fleet vehicles and policing facilities in an attempt to keep themselves and the public safe from the novel coronavirus.
