UPDATE: 53 new cases of COVID-19 in BC

VICTORIA—53 new cases of novel coronavirus were announced today by British Columbia’s Health Officer.

BC’s new total comes to 1,066 confirmed cases, with one new case in the Northern Health Region, bringing the total to 16 cases in the north. One death was announced today as well in the Fraser Health Region.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 497
  • Fraser Health:367
  • Vancouver Island:72
  • Interior Health:114
  • Northern Health:16

There are now 21 longterm, assisted living facility outbreaks, two more from yesterday. Provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry reiterated that even one sick individual at a longterm assisted living facility is categorized as an “outbreak.”

Adrian Dix passionately addressed travellers coming home to follow the orders in place by the provincial health officer, saying that British Columbians must do their part, in order to keep themselves and others safe.

There are 142 people hospitalized with COVID-19 with 7 in critical care.

BC’s total of deaths is 25, with 606 people who have fully recovered and are no longer in isolation.

Henry says that she knows BC can get through this but in order for that to happen we must all come together in an effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
