Ottawa signs distribution deal with Amazon to distribute critical medical supplies

OTTAWA — The federal government has found a way to supply provinces and territories with critical medical supplies.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Friday morning his government has signed a distribution deal with Amazon Canada to distribute items such as COVID-19 test kits and protective masks.

Trudeau also announced “$100 million to meet the urgent food needs of Canadians, including Indigenous communities.”

The prime minister said with food banks suffering from a lack of volunteers and donations, the need is greater than ever.

But Trudeau had a special thanks for the volunteers who have continued make it to food banks everyday to help their fellow Canadians.

“Thank you for feeding our vulnerable communities and thanks for the tireless work you do.”

The prime minister also said that the Canadian Forces are being sent to northern Quebec to help communities there prepare to respond to COVID-19 outbreaks.

He said the federal government is answering a call from the Quebec government.

As of this morning, 11,747 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Canada – 166 of those people have died.
