9-year-old celebrates “best birthday ever” with surprise car parade
PRINCE GEORGE – Despite the circumstances of being cooped up at home with her parents and younger sister, Ellie Collins was in for a surprise Friday evening to celebrate her ninth birthday.
Having to cancel her daughter’s birthday party, Deanna Collins had the idea of a drive-by parade suggested to her from a friend back in the Maritimes where the family had lived up until two years ago when they moved across Canada to settle in Prince George.
“It was a big humongous surprise,” admitted Ellie. “My neighbours all planned it too. They were sticking up signs. I didn’t quite understand. After a few cars, I went down the road and read the sign and I realized it was a big humongous parade because then a whole bunch more cars came down .”
After the first few cars, emotions got the better of Ellie as her and her family stood at the foot of their driveway, the horns of cars honking and birthday wishes being shouted out as each vehicle drove by.
