Flash Mob For Morale

Friendship Centre flash mob for morale

PRINCE GEORGE – Staff at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre held a brief flash mob this afternoon.

They sang songs in honour of women and men as well as the front line workers fighting the COVID pandemic. The goal is to hold these events every Wednesday at 1:30 to not only thank those who are battling the virus but to bolster those who may be anxious or exhausted because of the pandemic. The Head of the Native Friendship Centre says the music serves as medicine.

“At times, when there are challenges, especially for Indigenous people, we come together through medicine,” explains Barb Ward-Burkitt, Executive Director for the Prince George Native Friendship Centre. “‘Medicine’ can happen in many ways. Again, through the language, through the songs, through our drums. We use the smudge bowl to cleanse the drums before we came out. So that’s about sharing that medicine.”

She says the event also services to boost morale for those in the Friendship Centre, which remains open through the course of the pandemic.
