VICTORIA— B.C.’s Premier released a statement this morning in honour of Vaisakhi, with a friendly reminder to all those celebrating that this year’s celebrations will be different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi as a celebration of the formation of the Khalsa over 300 years ago, Hindus mark the day as the solar new year and celebrate it in various forms all over the Indian subcontinent.”

“These are extraordinary and difficult times.”—John Horgan, B.C. Premier

Horgan mentioned that normally the day is celebrated through worship, parades and families coming together, but not this year.
