VANDERHOOF — A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a Vanderhoof homicide investigation.

Police say it all began on March 9 when Vanderhoof RCMP received a call for a well-being check at a local residence.

“Upon attendance to the residence police located the 62-year-old home owner, Joy Morris, deceased,” says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

“The subsequent investigation determined that Ms. Morris’ death was the result of a homicide.”

She says on Friday April 10, investigators arrested 42-year-old Justin Johnston for the murder of Ms. Morris. Johnston was arrested in the South Okanagan where he had recently moved.

Saunderson says both Johnston and Morris were known to each other and says police do not believe there to be further risk to the greater public.

Johnston was remanded in custody and will make an appearance on court, via video, today (April 14).
