Wildlife meat sales illegal

It is illegal to buy, trade, barter or sell wildlife meat in B.C.

PRINCE GEORGE – The local Conservation Officer Service has seen some activity in the selling of wildlife meat.

According to the CO Service, some people who are not working because of the COVID-19 pandemic and are resorting to selling it.

The buying or selling of wildlife meat in British Columbia is illegal under the Wildlife Act.

Conservation Officers Service’s across the province are responding to reports of illegal sales of wildlife meat.

In the Prince George region, illegal wildlife meat sellers are using the internet to make their sales.

According to the Conservation Officer Service, illegal sales can have a significant impact on wild animal populations.

There is also a concern that the meat is an unregulated food source.

Many of the illegal sellers are reported through tips from the public, patrols and checkpoints.

The CO Service is asking for the public’s assistance to report illegal wildlife meat sales seen online.
