UPDATE: 1 new case of COVID-19 in Northern health, 43 in B.C.

VICTORIA—In a joint statement today, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix announced 43 new cases of the COVID-19 in B.C.

There is one new case of the virus in the Northern Health Region, bringing the total to 33 confirmed cases.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 680
  • Fraser Health: 661
  • Vancouver Island Health: 94
  • Interior Health: 150
  • Northern Health: 33

The total number of cases in the province is now at 1,618.

There are no new outbreaks according to the statement, however, the Mission Federal Correctional Facility is now at 63 cases of the virus, with six of those in hospital.

“”Of the total COVID-19 cases, 119 individuals are hospitalized and 52 of those are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.”

To date 966 people have recovered from COVID-19 in B.C.

“The modelling we released today clearly shows the resiliency and 100% commitment of everyone in B.C. is having a positive impact. We are bending the curve,” continued the statement.

“People in B.C. have listened and done the right thing. We are grateful for what everyone has done.”

Both Dix and Henry say that the onus is on us when it comes to how quickly we’ll see the end of the pandemic in our province.

Mentioning that “what happens next is directly tied to your continued efforts.”

“Our new normal in the months ahead will be a modification of what we are doing now. The physical distancing measures, staying home if you are ill and following good hand hygiene will continue.
